Dyslexia Fanikisha Programme
About the Programme
Enabling Every Learner to Succeed
The Dyslexia Fanikisha Programme is DOK’s comprehensive, community-based initiative designed to provide structured, ongoing support for children with dyslexia and other reading difficulties in Kenya.
Unlike one-off workshops, Fanikisha operates through sustained engagement — bringing together learners, parents, teachers, and specialists in a coordinated support network that addresses reading, self-esteem, and long-term educational outcomes.
The programme draws on internationally recognised, evidence-based approaches including Orton-Gillingham multisensory literacy techniques, adapted for the Kenyan educational context.
How It Works
Programme Components
Fanikisha takes a holistic approach — addressing not just the academic challenges of dyslexia, but the emotional and social dimensions too.
Structured Literacy Sessions
Evidence-based, multisensory literacy instruction designed specifically for dyslexic learners. Each session is tailored to the child’s unique learning profile.
Parent & Caregiver Training
Workshops that equip parents and caregivers with practical strategies to reinforce learning at home, building a consistent support environment.
Emotional & Social Support
Addressing the emotional wellbeing of learners through group sessions that build resilience, belonging, and a positive identity around dyslexia.
Progress Monitoring
Regular assessments track each learner’s growth, allowing the programme team to adapt interventions and celebrate milestones along the way.
