Dyslexia Organization Kenya is the premier body dealing with creation of awareness of Dyslexia among Kenyans. Dyslexia, a condition which increases learning difficulties due to compromised reading and writing skills, affects more than an estimated 10% out the of Kenyans student’s population who are stigmatized for being slow in school.
A fact which many parents, teachers and the people do not know is that children affected by Dyslexia are not slow learners but simply different learners who need a more customized approach to learning, good examples being Sir Richard Branson, Sir Winston Churchill and Albert Einstein. We can confidently state that high rates of school dropout cases can be attributed to Dyslexia. Frustrated, some of these students develop low self-esteem, turn to drugs, early marriages and crime.
DOK has created a mentorship programme for these students to network with successful people with dyslexia.
